Britton Lumber of Fairlee VT will move its business to Bath NH with purchasing HG Wood. In March of 2015 a fire devastated the sawmill that was founded in 1946 and employed 60 people. Company president Robert Moses had planned to rebuild the facility. However, on Thursday Moses announced they tried rebuilding in Fairlee but the business economics, nuances of insurance, and rebuilding in a flood zone along the Connecticut River were challenges the company could not overcome. Acquisition of HG Wood gives the company an immediate facility with a reputation for producing high quality Eastern White Pine lumber. As Britton Lumber celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2016, we are pleased to have a long-term plan to continue to manufacture and distribute pine boards to our customers,” said Moses. Plans are to open in June.
