Keene Man Charged with Theft by Deception

patrickOn March 19th, 2016 the Keene Police received a complaint from “The Pawn Shop” located on Main Street in Keene about an internal theft. The former employee accused being Patrick Michelson. A search of the store’s records revealed numerous discrepancies in violation of store policy. This investigation included an interview with the accused. Information gathered during this investigation was presented to the 8th Circuit Keene Court and an arrest warrant was issued charging Michelson with the crimes of Theft by Deception (RSA 637:4) and Tampering with Public or Private Records (RSA 638:3), both misdemeanor level offenses.  The court complaints are as follows:

Theft by Deception:

Purposely obtain or exercise control over the property of another, to wit, $180.00 in US Currency belonging to The Pawn Shop, by deception in that he created or reinforced an impression that a transaction on The Pawn Shop’s transaction registry was authorized by applying a discount to a personal loan using another employee’s ID, said impression was false and Michelson did not believe it to be true, and he acted with a purpose to deprive

The Pawn Shop thereof Tampering with Public of Private Records:Did knowingly falsify a private writing or record with purpose to deceive or conceal any wrongdoing, knowing that he had no privilege to do so, in that said Michelsonfalsely signed a pawn transaction receipt at The Pawn Shop, Keene, NH under the name of another, Allyn Michelson III, to conceal a transaction made by Michelson to The Pawn Shop, On May 17th, 2016 Michelson came to the Keene Police station for an unrelated matter and was taken into custody without incident. He was brought before the 8th Circuit Keene Court and bailed on $5,000.00 until July 11th, 2016
