Henry Carnevale, 65, of Newbury, New Hampshire was arrested at his residence yesterday afternoon after leaving the scene of a collision on Interstate 89 in Grantham. He was initially held overnight on $5,000 cash bail on charges of Reckless Conduct and Conduct After an Accident. He was arraigned today in Newport Circuit Court and released on $25,000 personal recognizance bail.
The incident occurred on Aug. 9 at approximately 7:28 a.m.
The ensuing state police investigation revealed a white 2014 Volkswagen Jetta had been traveling northbound on I89 as a white 2003 Ford Explorer followed closely behind it.
At some point, the Explorer passed the Jetta and then changed lanes in front of it. A collision resulted, during which the Jetta lost control and struck a bridge abutment close to workers in an active DOT construction zone.
The operator of the Jetta and a child passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
Carnevale, the driver of the Explorer, left the scene.
The collision was caught on video.
