The NH State Police, Troop F, received a report just after 3:30 pm on Friday, of a motor vehicle collision on Rt. 26 in the town of Dixville. Troopers responded and discovered that the collision involved a single vehicle that had struck a piece of paving equipment which had been parked off the shoulder of the roadway in a construction zone which was inactive at the time of the collision. The vehicle, a 2001 Toyota Celica GT was driven by George HEALD, Age 60 of Colebrook, New Hampshire.
Preliminary on-scene investigation revealed that HEALD was traveling westbound on Rt. 26 when his vehicle went off the right side of the roadway after striking some traffic cones, struck the guardrail which caused the vehicle to veer off the left side of the roadway and strike an embankment before going airborne and came to rest after striking a piece of paving equipment. HEALD suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in this collision.
Units assisting at the scene included personnel from the New Hampshire State Police-Troop F, New Hampshire State Police-Troop G, New Hampshire State Police-Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit, Colebrook Police Department, Colebrook Fire/EMS and Errol Fire/EMS.
