On 11/16/16 at approximately 0550 hours the victim called 911 to report that she’d had an argument with her boyfriend, Jonathan Blake, and he kicked Shadow, their 16 week old black Labrador mix puppy causing its death. Troopers responded to the residence where they found Blake digging a grave for Shadow. Investigation revealed that Blake and the victim had had a verbal argument just prior to 0600 hours. When Blake was about to leave the residence, Shadow was by the front door looking to go outside. Blake kicked Shadow in the ribcage, forcing him to hit the pellet stove near the front door. Shadow yelped, ran to the kitchen area, collapsed on the dining room floor, and died. There was no physical contact between Blake and the victim, but his actions with regard to Shadow caused her to fear bodily injury. Blake was taken into custody and transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing. Blake was previously convicted of Domestic Assault in 2013, so he is being charged with Second Degree Aggravated Domestic Assault and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. The court clerk set bail at $5,000 cash and conditions should Blake make bail. Blake will appear in Windham Superior Court-Criminal Division on 11/17/16 at 1230 hours for arraignment on the charges. Blake was lodged at the Southern State Correctional Facility for lack of cash bail. A small amount of marijuana belonging to Blake was seized at the scene and he was issued a civil ticket for possession of marijuana.
