On Thursday November 17, 2016 Canaan Police, Ambulance and Fire
Department units were dispatched to the area of Grafton Turnpike Road in
North Canaan for a report of a hunter suffering a medical emergency in the
Approximately 30 minutes after the initial call, emergency responders
located the male, in his 60’s, approximately one half mile off of the main
roadway in rugged terrain. It was quickly determined that the patient was
suffering a life-threatening medical emergency and could not walk from the
scene. Canaan Police and EMS personnel were able to render emergency
care to the male while awaiting an evacuation.
Emergency responders were able to eventually reach the patient utilizing an
all-terrain utility vehicle, allowing him to be evacuated via a logging trail.
Canaan emergency responders were assisted by the New Hampshire Department
of Fish and Game, Lebanon Fire Department EMS, Hanover Communications
Center and several neighbors.
