On Saturday shortly after 6:00 Springfield VT police officers were dispatched to the area of Gurney Road for a 911 hang up call. Upon searching the area Officers were flagged down by a passerby who advised that they had witnessed a yellow ATV that looked like the one that was stolen out of Cavendish yesterday. Officers searched the area with negative results.
A second 911 call came in that the ATV was driving up and down Whitcomb Street. Officers responded to the area and upon arrival, observed one male wearing black clothing run behind the residence towards Park Street. The other male was detained. This male was identified as Aaron Montgomery.
The ATV was located in the backyard of the residence. A VIN check of the vehicle was done and officers were advised that this was the same ATV that was allegedly stolen from Cavendish the day before. After a short investigation Montgomery was arrested for Possession of Stolen Property and transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing.
Officers continued to investigate the other male who took leg bail from the Whitcomb Street area who had been allegedly identified as Matthew Horton and was known to have an outstanding extraditable warrant from NH.
At approximately 08:20 a.m. officers received information that Horton was hiding at a residence located on River Street. Officers responded to the location and allegedly located Horton hiding in a closet. Horton was taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing. Horton was issued a citation to appear at a later date for the alleged Possession of Stolen Property and was lodged at Southern State Correctional Facility on the alleged charge of Fugitive From Justice on $25,000 bail and will be arraigned on November 28th on the Fugitive charge.
Horton and Montgomery will appear in Windsor County Superior Court Criminal Division on January 17, 2017 to answer to the alleged possession of Stolen Property char
