School Bus Crashes in Newbury VT

school-busOn 11/28/16, the Vermont State Police responded to a school bus crash on Moore Hill Road in Newbury. Members of Woodsville Ambulance, the Newbury Fast Squad,and the Department of Motor Vehicle Commercial Enforcement Unit responded as well.

William Jones was operating the bus and traveling east on Moore Hill Road. William Jones reported that there was a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction. He advised that he steered the bus towards the edge of the road to allow room for the other vehicle. The passenger side tires traveled onto the soft shoulder. The shoulder began to give way from the weight of the bus and William Jones was unable to steer it back onto the roadway. The bus began to roll towards the passenger side, but a couple of trees prevented it from rolling all the way over.

There were 29 students on the bus at the time of the collision. All the students were able to exit the bus on their own. The students were from the Newbury Elementary School and Oxbow High School. Four students were transported to Cottage Hospital for evaluation. All injuries were considered minor.
