NOTTINGHAM – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal J. William Degnan, Nottingham Fire Chief Jaye Vilchock , and Nottingham Police Chief Gunner Foss announce that the Nottingham Fire and Police Departments were called to 176 Stage Road in Nottingham at approximately 9:20 pm for a reported building fire.
Upon arrival, the single-family residential dwelling was heavily involved in fire. The first arriving police and fire personnel entered and where able to rescue an adult male subject, but heavy fire conditions prevented crews from affecting the 2nd rescue of a female victim. The adult male subject was transported to Exeter Hospital for treatment.
Positive identification of the female victim and cause of death are pending an autopsy that will take place at NH State Medical Examiner’s Office in Concord, NH.
The investigation into the Origin & Cause of the fire is active and ongoing by members of the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office and Nottingham Fire and Police Departments. Preliminary indications are that the fire originated in a 1st floor bedroom and rapidly spread throughout the interior portions of the building.
State Fire Marshal Degnan would like to remind all citizens of the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home. In the event of a fire, immediately exit your home and call 911. Keep exits clear of debris and have a home fire escape plan.
