Early Morning Fire in Newport Displaces Family

An early morning fire on Sandy Lane in Newport quickly escalated to a two alarm just after 6:30 am on Tuesday. Upon arrival firefighters found a single-story ranch with attached garage with heavy fire through the roof on the back of the building.

A primary search by crews found 1 cat in the basement alive and brought him to safety. Crews were removed from the inside of the building due to heavy fire and attacked the blaze from the interior. The homeowner reported that one dog and two cats were missing.  The fire was deemed under control at 7:43AM with extensive overhaul. While conducting overhaul at 8:30AM crews located the missing dog and he was taken into the ambulance to warm up and given oxygen.  The family took the dog to a nearby Vet clinic for evaluation.  Responding to the scene were Newport Police Department, Claremont Fire, Goshen Fire, Lempster Fire Department, New London NH Fire Department, and Eversource. Covering the Newport Fire Station were the Croydon and Newbury Fire Departments. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
