Fire Damages Cavendish Home Destroys Barn

A Cavendish VT family and their 2 dogs escaped their burning home early Wednesday morning.  Fire officials say the fire started shortly after 2 am and upon arrival heavy fire was through the roof of the home’s attached barn.  The Main Street fire quickly escalated to a 3- Alarm calling mutual aid from VT and NH and shutting down Main Street for several hours. The barn structure sustained heavy damage and partially collapsed. Crews stopped the fire as it made its way toward the main part of the house. The house sustained heavy fire damage to a couple of rooms. Through the efforts of all involved a large portion of the house was saved and the home owners will be able to salvage portion of their belongings. There were no firefighter injuries reported. All fire fighters were back at Proctorville Fire Department and in service just before 11:30am.
