On March 6, 2017 at approximately 4:30 PM, NH Fish and Game Department Conservation Officers executed a search warrant on a Laconia property after receiving report that a monkey (“primate”) was being illegally kept as a pet on the premise.
Conservation Officers seized the reported primate that was in possession of Penny Dessalines, age 47, and Burnie Johnson, age 51, at a Laconia residence, and safely transported the animal to the only veterinary Dr. in this state who specializes in primate care. Conservation Officers, the involved veterinarian and local wildlife rehabilitators are now faced with the challenging task of finding this illegal pet not only just an acceptable home, but also a legal one.
NH Fish and Game Department has no tolerance for people who decide to illegally possess or import primates, and other controlled species that require a special permit in this state. The crime remains under investigation.
