Income Cap Raised for Seniors in Sunapee

Senior Citizens living in Sunapee who did not qualify for a property tax credit, may now be eligible. At this year’s Town Meeting, an increase to the cap on income eligibility for single and married people 65 years old and older was voted in. Previously, a taxpayer who was single could only have $18,000 in total income. It is now $25,000.  A married couple previously could only have $27,000 in total income, now a married couple can have up to $34,000 in total income.  In addition, asset limits were raised from $50,00 to $75,00. The assets limits do not include your residence plus two acres.

Those who think they qualify can receive a reduction in their assessment for the 2017 tax year, but applications must be received by April 15.  Contact Melissa Pollari at the Sunapee Town Offices 763-2212 if you think you qualify or for more information.
