VSP Receive CALEA Accreditation

The Vermont State Police received their official CALEA Accreditation this weekend. CALEA is short for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and was started in 1979 as a credentialing authority through joint efforts of International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); National Sheriffs’ Association (NSA); and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF)

The Accreditation award was given on Saturday night to Vermont State Police Director Colonel Matthew T. Birmingham and the Office of Professional Standards Commander Lt. Dee Barbic in Mobil Alabama.

Vermont is the 10th State Police Force in the country to receive CALEA Accreditation and only the second police force accredited in VT. University of Vermont Police Department was the first.
