The VSP, Middlesex Barracks are investigating an alleged theft ring involving Wal-marts in Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Police say on Sunday they arrested Johnnie Hammond 41, of Rode Island after he and passengers abandoned gold Toyota Sedan at an AOT (Agency of Transportation) Garage in Williamstown VT. Officers found over $4,000 of stolen property inside the sedan, and found Hammond and other occupants of the vehicle walking on Route 64 in the area of Palmer road.
An investigation revealed that Hammond instructed others on what to steal which included bed sheets, pillowcases, bicycle parts, and school supplies. Hammond would then return the items for store credit at other locations. Hammond was arrested for False pretenses or tokens, Accessory to Retail Theft, False Info to Law Enforcement, Criminal Threatening, Accessory Aiding the Commission of a Felony, and Accessory After the Fact. He was lodged at Chitenden County Correctional Facility.
