Ice Out? Not Yet

Osborne Marine photo from 2015

Last year the ice went out on Lake Sunapee on March 24, but looks like this year may be one for the record.  According to the official tracker of the ice out Richard “Ozzie” Osborne the ice is still too heavy to get a boat launched.  Osborne checks the ice each year and declares Ice Out when he can take his boat across the lake from Sunapee to Georges Mills.  This year’s maybe closer to 2015’s date when ice out was declared on April 25.  Usually ice is gone on the lake by mid April. The town of Sunapee has a record of every ice out date dating back to 1869 available on its website.
