Emergency Workers Retrieve Empty Kayak

An overturned Kayak had Upper Valley Rescue workers at Sumner Falls yesterday afternoon.  After receiving a report of an overturned Kayak and possibly a scream for help, rescue workers from Plainfield, Meriden, Cornish, Hartland, Lebanon, Windsor and Hanover Fire Departments along with Cornish Rescue, Windsor Ambulance and Plainfield Police responded to the scene.

Earlier in the day an empty kayak was seen near Veterans Bridge on I-89 between Lebanon and Hartford, but the Fire Departments from both towns did not see anyone and decided not to retrieve it.

Hours later the call came in for the overturned Kayak at Sumner Falls. After several hours of searching the river in rescue boats it was determined there was not a person in the river after the empty kayak was retrieved near the Cornish Covered Bridge.
