Lyme Man Arrested for Resisting Detention

On April 13, 2017 at approximately 9:29am, Lebanon Police checked on a suspicious vehicle on Bank Street. The male driver of the vehicle was driving beside a female who was walking on the side of the road and they appeared to be involved in a verbal altercation.
The female got back into the vehicle and the officer made contact with the two. The driver was identified as Timothy Nichols, age 22 of Lyme, NH. The female was found to be a 17-year-old juvenile.
While the officer was attempting to investigate the altercation, the young woman became belligerent and struck him with the vehicle door. The officer attempted to take her into custody but was met with resistance. Other officers arrived on scene to assist. While attempting to detain Nichols, he resisted and had to be forcibly removed from the car. While officers were attempting to control Nichols, he was found to be concealing a pistol in his waistband. Officers were able to remove the weapon and arrest Nichols without any injuries to Nichols or the officers. Nichols did not have a permit for the pistol but a permit is no longer required due to the change in State Law. Nichols was subsequently found to be in possession of the Controlled Drug Marijuana.
Nichols was charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug and Resisting Detention, both Class A Misdemeanors. Nichols was released on $5,000 Personal Recognizance Bail and will be arraigned in the Lebanon District Division, New Hampshire Second Circuit Court on June 12, 2017. The juvenile was released to a parent and will undergo proceedings in the juvenile justice system.
