Two brush fires on Podunk Road in Hartford VT kept firefighters busy yesterday afternoon. Hartford Fire Chief Scott Cooney said Hartford Fire Department was attending a small blaze at 832 Podunk road when they learned of a larger brush fire on the 300 block. The second fire was in close to residences and quickly went to a 1st alarm calling mutual aid companies from Lebanon Hanover, Sharon, Woodstock and Hartland. Due to the heat and numerous firefighters, Thetford Fire Department and the Red Cross were called on for refreshments for firefighters. Down power lines were attributed to the cause of both fires. The larger fire burnt 3.4 acres but was prevented from spreading to any nearby structures. Windsor and Norwich Fire companies manned the Hartford Fire Station. All units were back in quarters by 8:30 PM.
