Westminster Man Charged with Leaving Accident Scene

A license plate left at a Bellows Falls accident lead police to a Westminster man who was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident.  Bellows Falls Police say when they responded to an accident on Westminster St and Red Light Hill they discovered a green Jeep Cherokee had fled the scene.  A check of the plate number and description of the Jeep lead police to put out a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for Melvin Lowell and the Jeep.

A report of a vehicle off the road, lead Vermont State Police to Piggery Road in Westminster, where they discovered the Jeep involved in the crash in Bellows Falls. Bellows Falls Officers responded to the scene and upon further investigation found Lowell at his home. During an interview, Lowell admitted to causing the earlier crash.  Lowell was cited to appear in Windham Court on a later date.
