NL Hospital Appoints Chief Financial Officer and VP

NEW LONDON, NH – New London Hospital (NLH) executives recently announced two key promotions: Lisa Cohen, CPA, became the hospital’s Chief Financial Officer, and Barbara Mahar cemented her role as permanent Vice President of the New London Hospital Medical Group. The promotions went into effect at the start of NLH’s fiscal year, on July 1.

Cohen joined NLH in 2014, when she came on board as Controller and Vice President of Finance. During her initial tenure, Cohen directed multiple accounting transitions related to NLH’s affiliation with Dartmouth-Hitchcock, and she played a critical role in ensuring the hospital properly navigated evolutions in rural billing procedures and compliance. Prior to joining NLH, Cohen served as Controller for Visiting Nurse and Hospice of VT and NH, and she worked at Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital as Senior Accountant. Cohen’s ascension to CFO comes on the heels of the retirement of Don Griffin, whose service to NLH dates back to 2004.

As Vice President, Mahar will oversee NLH’s outpatient practices, as well as those at Newport Health Center and the New London Pediatric Care Center. She’s well-suited to the task: Mahar brings more than a decade of practice management experience to NLH, having served Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in this capacity from 1997 – 2009. There, she oversaw multiple primary and specialty care clinics and their staffs, and she worked tirelessly to ensure patient and employee satisfaction. From 2011 – 2015, Mahar managed several specialty clinics at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, where she served as Nurse Recruitment and Talent Acquisition Manager until ascending to her new role with NLH.
